Blender is a 3D animation suite with tools for modeling, animation, rendering, as well as video editing and compositing and numerous other capabilities. It can be used for making movies, games, art work, and technical drawings.
List of Implementers
Integrated Vector Rendering
The current edge rendering is cool but it's not really flexible. It would be nice to have multiple edge settings (for example on a by-material basis) with controls over hidden, crease etc. The best would be to have also a vector output for the edges pass (svg would be great). I think this would help a lot of artist/architects in their workflow and open up new ways of using blender.
[Current project called Pantograph tries to do that but it's not integrated, it's hard to setup, it's slow and it get messed up on complex drawings.]

Efficient TCP/IP based realtime sharing
After having spent some time on IRC discussing blender ideas, I have noticed that there is considerable time wasted trying to show each other concepts, renders and screenshots of the blender session. It would be nice if there was some way to collaborate within blender itself.
So my challenge to the team would be to implement a streamlined TCP/IP based sharing system (ie: no VNC or transmitting periodic screenshots). Here is a rough list of requirements:
-The system should allow listening on a specific port/ip, or connecting to someone else.
-It should allow a choice of read-only or read-write modes
-The two (or more?) connected users should be able to see mouse movements and blender updates in realtime.
-The protocol should be efficient in that it should only tranmit the events needed to reproduce the same affect on the remote system using only existing mouse and keyboard event hooks, with the exception being allowed to transmit bitmap information to properly render UV's and textures.
-Care should also be given to security with regards to python scripting of course :)
Anyways, just a troubled thought. ;) Hopefully its doable in a 24hr period. Good luck guys!

6 digit frame numbers
Presently, Blender saves filenames of images using 4 digit numbers, like 1324.jpg for frame 1324. This causes sorting issues when you reach frame 10000, or about 7 minutes. Workarounds are a kludgy hack. This feature would expand the number of frames to 6 digits throughout the code, including saving filenames using pre-filled with leading zeroes to avoid filesystem sorting errors as well, making it all consistent, and enabling seamless editing of continues video spanning the full length of a motion picture.

Curve Point Radius Visualization
A switch that allows the user to see the width of the points on a curve. Circles facing the camera would suffice.
|
Glossy Value in Material Node
Exposing the glossines value of materials will allow for materials with different gloss values across the surface.
|
Entering the size of objects with the keyboard
When creating vectors, to be able to enter the size with the keyboard. Shortcuts for maintaining the lines orthogonal when modeling. Without this, any precise construction cannot be done in Blender.
|
External Renderer API
It would be nice if Blender had some API for using external renderers without export scripts for adjusting materials, render options, lights, etc.
|
New Radiosity
It would be great if Blender Internal Renderer have more useful radiosity + caustics.

Add a motion tracking system to Blender
Currently it is not simply possible to do motion tracking with a default Blender installation. There are some scripts available which are more or less useful and stable.
Many Blender users use Voodoo at the moment, but since it is not open source and not always under developement it's no perfect solution.
It would be great to have a real motion tracking system in Blender, maybe it's possible to continue the existing work from libmv.

Usable keying feature
Blender has with his node system already a keying feature implemented, but currently, it is not very good to use.
It would be great to have a keying tool which is able to detect edges of objects and so on to make it more productive.

Camera framerate independant of playback framerate
One would be able to specify the framerate of the camera and modulate it with ipo curves. This would allow for users to do slowmotion and "ramp" effects without changing the motion of the animation. This would be especially useful when using physics to animate a scene you could render a shot at multiple framerates without changing anything but the framerate and cut perfectly between shots. This how it works in the real world so it will also be the most intuitive way for new users and anytime blender is used on a film project for CG effects.
Or previs of a scene to be shot on film.
If this is already possible i apologize :)

WiiSculpt
The idea is to develop all the required Python scripts to be able to use a WiiMote as input device for the sculpt mode in Blender.
