Inkscape
Created by Brian, modified Juli 31, 2008 at 12:03:51 CET | This project has a total of 13 feature requests with 21 comments rated at 312 points | 7 unique implementers | Readiness: 3 features with at least three implementers rated at 123 points
An Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.
Inkscape supports many advanced SVG features (markers, clones, alpha blending, etc.) and great care is taken in designing a streamlined interface. It is very easy to edit nodes, perform complex path operations, trace bitmaps and much more. We also aim to maintain a thriving user and developer community by using open, community-oriented development.
List of Implementers
Improved Layers dialog and layers functionality
1) Use smaller icons for the toolbar
2) Add "Duplicate layer" button to the toolbar
3) Implement drag'n'drop for changing layers hierarchy
4) Make it possible to paste selection and/or clipboard content to a particular layer
5) Implement wireframe mode on per layer basis

importing text and bitmaps from .CDR
Using UniConvertor from Sk1 project works part way, but not fully. It would be great to exchange in .CDR format when .SVG is not an option
|
Improve nodes
1- It would be nice to copy and paste only the selected nodes rather than the whole image.
2- Ability to create nodes freely on a line rather than just between 2 nodes.
|
Improved UI for SVG filters
1) It should be possible to copy/paste filter primitives between filters
2) It should be possible to toggle visibility of filter primitives.
3) It should be possible to apply a filter to either fill or stroke, not everything at once.

Implement Illustrator's(Gradient) Grid Kind of Concept
I heard that Grid function(Gradient) of Illustrator is awesome
1) More control over gradient More flexible, have controls to shape the Gradient as we want.
(Any shape
- curvy for Example 'S' kind of Curvy gradient and
- if gradient can following the Border of the shape to which its is applied
Explanation: Gradient applied from Border of the shape to the center of the shape, any irregular shape; kind of star shape)

eps transperancy
eps import would work a 100% if it would support transperancy

Various new features...
1) Trace Bitmap preview sizes (large, medium small) - and anti alias?
2) Trace bitmap progress and node count
3) sizable color palette, customizable with ability to save and load presets. Introduce a color wheel to help eliminate scrolling for colors.
4) Export as icon
5) ability to close document, but leave inkscape open
6) 'project type' preferences that load and save custom palettes, set default locations, set output preferences, brush presets and preconfigure various other settings. basically a preset system that is a collection of other presets.
7) split window option, with separate zoom levels. imagine left being full view, right half zoomed in to a node management level. lock or unlock movement to independent of each or simultaneous scrolling.
8) documentation in a more compatible .chm or .html files for offline usage.
9) ability to change node and handle colors in preferences
10) icon along top (far right) that is always there to access and hide layer list.
11) each time OK is pressed in the trace bitmap window, a new layer for the trace is made, allowing multiple traces to be made to multiple layers at once time (with auto naming of course.)
*sorry if I mentioned any features that already exist

Reach and powerful XML editor
Syntax highlighting and highlighting of the edited nodes would be a great features.

Improved LivePathEffects stack dialog and functionality
Make it possible to:
1) Enable/disable specific effects within a stack (like layer visibility setting)
2) Make it possible to change the visible result to somewhere within the stack. So that it is possible to see the result of somewhere halfway the stack without having to delete the rest of the stack.
3) Drag 'n' drop for changing order?
4) Change name of effect, and give each effect some sort of icon to still be able to see which effect it is.
(number 1 and 2 are really cool I think)

Snap and connection features
1)On the fly setting of snap targets: grid, guide, object points (similar to AutoCad or QCad)
2)default and custom definition of snap points on the obects
3)custom definition of connection nodes
4)orthogonal connectors (formed of vertical and horizontal lines only)
|
PDF Output (and CMYK)
1) Get the Cairo PDF "Convert blur effects to bitmaps" feature functioning. The ability to output designs accurately to a ubiquitous, (mostly) vector format is tremendously valuable.
2) True CMYK support (of the Scribus variety) would also be nice.

implement correct insetting and outsetting of paths
Currently the inset and offset function simply do not work correctly (they never have). Take a simple rounded square, convert it to a path and then offset it a couple of times to see what I mean.

vectored fonts
I don't know if this is already scheduled or not, but:
VECTORISED FONTS, a la Adobe Illustrator.
It'd just be nice to be able to pick a font that's CLOSE to what I'm looking for and then move some of the nodes appropriately to get the desired result.
If this is already scheduled, please note so.
