OpenOffice.org

Created by maemst, modified Mai 28, 2009 at 03:16:14 CET | This project has a total of 6 feature requests with 6 comments rated at 121 points | 2 unique implementers | Readiness: 0 features with at least three implementers rated at 0 points

OpenOffice.org is an office application suite available for a number of different computer operating systems. It supports the OpenDocument standard for data interchange as its default file format, as well as Microsoft Office '97-2003 formats, among many others.

OpenOffice.org is based on StarOffice, an office suite developed by StarDivision and acquired by Sun Microsystems in August 1999. The source code of the suite was released in July 2000 with the aim of reducing the dominant market share of Microsoft Office by providing a free, open and high-quality alternative. OpenOffice.org is free software, available under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL).

Creating simple text forms in Writer

The ability to create simple forms where you fill parts of the text within the (locked) standard text lines formatted like the rest of the text, is urgently needed.

To date, OOo just has graphical text boxes like for pdf forms and database, but no easy-to-Tab-through, straightforward text input lines, which is really the last feature I miss to make me completely switch from Word to OOo. This is needed in many offices daily - like in mine - for writing standard letters for offers etc.

2008-07-26 20:05 Visvo Yes this would be quite cool! I missed this function often. Maybe the same forms could be integrated in the pdf-export!?

Make Proper Rich Text Format (.rtf) files

I have found in previous versions of OpenOffice.org that the Rich Text Format (.rtf) file saving saved garbage rather than a true RTF file that is compatible with the real RTF standard. This is a request to make saving files into Rich Text Format work perfectly (in terms of implimentation of the full RTF format).

2009-05-28 03:16 JohnB Tried the save as .odf then .rtf & it did nt work. The original doc was created in Word 07(?)/Vista & OOo loses the headers/footers & some of the title formatting. Cheers J

2009-04-01 16:51 Don McKenzie Cook This works: open foo.rtf; make changes; save as .odt; re-open; save as .rtf. Now .rtf doc is ok.

Import references into bibliography management

The current bibliography management in OpenOffice.org is not very user friendly. I'd like to be able to import my BibTex references and add them dynamically to papers.

2008-06-13 12:03 azure It would be nice if I can import document's bibliography into my local bibliography database, each I want to add and ability to add all of them at once

2008-04-24 20:43 maemst That's a great suggestion as I'm a 'heavy user' of JabRef! I'd appreciate such an integration and will contact a guy I know from the JabRef team.

2008-04-21 02:15 Baxissimo JabRef is great for BibTeX db management. Maybe the best route would be tighter integration with that?

Better regression graphics in Calc

I'd like to have an ability to draw not only linear regressions in diagrams, but polynomial regressions of any power. And I think that equation of regression should be displayed in given coordinates (if any).

consistent handling of paragraph properties

OOo does not handle paragraph properties (like style assignments) in a correct way.
Example: when you cut a paragraph containing just a line of text styled as e.g. "heading 1", styling of following or previous text will change, depending on how exactly the text was selected.
Worse: when pasting the cut text back into the same place, the result will not be the original text. This means, cut X then paste X is not a noop in OOo, which is a fundamental bug IMHO.

Date

The date in OO is automatically.

dd.mm.yy.

If you want
dd.mmmm.yy you can change it, but you can“t preformat ist, as you can in MS Word.
